IFMBE General Assembly in Beijing during WC 2012
On Monday, May 28th, 2012 the International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering (IFMBE) General Assembly took place during the 2012 World Congress on Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering in Beijing.
Three EAMBES delegates participated at the IFMBE General Assembly:
- the newly appointed President Elect, Birgit Glasmacher,
- the Councillor for Research Affairs, Maria Siebes,
- the Chair of the EAMBES Fellow's Committee, former President of the Alliance, Jos Spaan.
During the General Assembly, two new members of the IFMBE Administrative Council (AC) were elected and we are happy to announce that one them is Maria Siebes.
The proposed new structure of the IFMBE was approved, whereby the “Societies Committee” is replaced by the “Council of Societies”, which in turn will be organized in four Regional Groups representing the geographic distribution of IFMBE national and transnational societies: Europe & Africa, Asian-Pacific, Latin America, and North America.
Each Regional Group will be represented by a Regional Chair, who, together with the Chair of the Council of Societies, will become ex officio members of the IFMBE Administrative Council.
The next steps will be to write the Charter of the Council of Societies and to prepare the election of the Regional Chairs. All society delegates from a particular region will vote for their respective Regional Chair. This transition is slated to be completed within the next 6 months after which the formation of the 2012-2015 Administrative Council is finalized.
IFBME intention with this initiative is to enhance the collaboration between the member societies within the regions.
"This process gives EAMBES the opportunity to strengthen its ties with IFMBE and jointly serve the Biomedical Engineering community in Europe. The main focus of EAMBES will continue to be to work with EU policy makers to ensure improved support and recognition for research and innovation in our field - building on our experience and established reputation in that environment." reports Birgit Glasmacher.
Further comments on the meeting outcomes will be disseminated as soon as the official minutes are circulated by IFMBE.
