The Strategic Implementation Plan (SIP) of the Pilot European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing is now public.

In occasion of the last General Council election, the representative of TU/e -Eindhoven University of Technology- Keita Ito, was nominated Councillor of the Alliance and then unanimously elected Treasurer by the new Council. The IEEE International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging (ISBI) is the premier forum for the presentation of technological advances in theoretical and applied biomedical imaging and image computing. If you wish to participate the call for abstract is now open and will close on January 6, 2012.

On the occasion of the last General Council election, the representative of IEEE EMBS Europe Christopher James, was nominated Councillor for External Relationships of the Alliance. In the next lines we will try to discover something more about his background, his ideas and goals for the future.
EAMBES branded event at the parliament!
On March 27th, 2012 the Member of the European Parliament Thomas Ulmer will host an Expert Policy Workshop organized with the collaboration of EAMBES. This will be a great opportunity for the Alliance to increase the European Union’s support to BME.
Horizon 2020 is now public!
On November 30th the European Commission published the proposal package for the for next EU Framework: Horizon 2020.
EAMBES contributes to the seminar "Medical Technologies - Solutions to the grand societal challenge of healthy ageing".
A follow-on meeting to the Munich Round Table on Medical Technology was organized in Brussels on November 24th, 2011 by the Capital Region of Denmark (creoDK), the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), the Danish Research Office (DANRO) and EAMBES, with the aim of increasing research support for our field.

State of the Alliance 2011
In occasion of the campaign for the membership renewal, Marco Viceconti, President of the Alliance, makes a summary of the activities undertaken during the past year, which saw the full re-establishment of the EAMBES organisation and a dedicated Council actively involved in many strategic activities.
EAMBES establishes the Division of Fellow
In occasion of the last Council meeting, the Councillor for Academic Affairs, Maria Siebes presented a proposal to activate the Division of Fellows, an essential component of the EAMBES Statute that was never initiated.
The European Commission’s possible recognition of Biomedical Engineering brings hopes
Well informed sources suggest that Biomedical Engineering will be amongst the focus disciplines of the European Commission’s “Working Paper for Health Research in 2013”.
From National to European
EAMBES is working hard to increase awareness in the European Commission and Parliament of the potential of Biomedical Engineering to address the key societal challenges that have been set, including active and healthy ageing, delivering care where needed, reducing the burden of health care systems and improving Europe’s industrial competitiveness, as well as strengthening Europe’s science base. EAMBES aims to speak with a single voice at the EU level on behalf of our community.
Call for Nomination for the 2012 EAMBES Council Election
The Call for Nomination officially opened on the 1st of October 2011 and will last to the end of the month. Anyone who wishes to participate to the electoral round can send their candidature to the EAMBES Manager.
The EAMBES General Council met in Budapest on September 16th 2011
The second annual meeting of the General Council of EAMBES took place in Budapest during the 5th European IFMBE Conference. The meeting was very productive and effective: the collaborative and dynamic atmosphere confirmed once again that the Alliance has returned with energy and strategic vision!
The EAMBES Policy Affairs Working Group (PAWG) opens its activities to the membership
During the recent General Council meeting, it was decided that the future PAWG conference calls will be open to the delegates of the member organisations who wish to be closely involved in the Policy Affairs initiatives. PAWG activities are growing and bearing fruit, with EAMBES increasing the visibility of Biomedical Engineering through diverse channels within the European Union and Commission.
Consultation on the ERA Framework: Areas of untapped potential for the development of the European Research Area (ERA)
This public consultation aims at gathering views and evidence from stakeholders on the key obstacles which have to be tackled to achieve a well-functioning ERA. Completing ERA will require the support and effort of all EU Member States and Associated Countries and their stakeholders (e.g. research performing organisations including universities, funding organisations, researchers, private sector and civil society).
EAMBES gives its support to CRH-BME
EAMBES shares the scopes and formally supports the initiatives undertaken by the CRH-BME project – Curricula Reformation and Harmonisation in the field of Biomedical Engineering.
The EAMBES membership campaign 2012 will open shortly
As usual during this time of the year EAMBES will soon open the membership campaign for 2012 in which the Alliance will ask the support of its members in paying the 2012 membership fee.
Call for Candidate for the election of the VPH Institute Board of Trustees
Soon after the first General Assembly of the VPH Institute which will be held on September 28th, 2011 in Barcelona, it will take place the election of the members of the Board of Trustees: the President and two Financial Auditors. The call for candidates is now open: anyone who wishes to participate to the electoral round can send their candidature for the open positions.
