Ergonomic evaluation of a product often requires building a physical mock-up or prototype, having a group of experts or a representative sample of users test it, and then provide an assessment of discomfort and ease of use. This is an expensive and time-consuming process especially when the product design has to be modified and re-validated. Digital Mock-Ups (DMU) together with Digital Human Models (DHM), are increasingly used in the early phase of product design in order to reduce the product development time and cost. In order to help the designer evaluate the future product, the digital human should ideally behave like a real human being, not only in terms of anthropometry and biomechanics, but also in terms of motion, discomfort, attention and perception, and occupational injury. The main objective of this symposium is to provide a unique opportunity for researchers, software editors and end-users to share most recent R&D results and DHM experience.
- Anthropometry and 3D human body modeling
- Human functional data (e.g. joint maximum strength, joint range of motion) and their modelling
- Advanced biomechanical human models
- Motion capture and reconstruction
- Posture and motion simulation
- Biomechanics and discomfort
- Applications and software demonstration
- Virtual Reality and DHM
- Mental/cognitive models and integrated models
- Older, disabled and other special populations
- Verification and validation of DHMs
- Model standards and protocols

- 15-20min presentations (+5 min questions/discussions) for oral session
- A poster session will also be available in the exhibit room
- Oral presentations and posters will be selected from abstracts submission, 400 words maximum.
Upon acceptance, a 4-10 pages extended abstract will be published in the conference proceedings. The organizing committee is currently checking to publish selected papers in a special issue in an international human factors or ergonomics journal. - Best poster and best oral presentation will be selected by Scientific Committee.
